Mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, obessive compulsive disorder are biologically based illnesses caused by a biochemical imbalance in the brain or a malfunctioning  of the brain's neurotransnsmitters. These illnesses can be treated. And there is a good record of success with proper treatment.

When treatment includes medication and supportive counseling , persons with mental illness are capable of functioning in the community.

Lack of proper or diminished treatment may result in repeated hospitalizations and setbacks in functioning.

We believe that mental illness deserves the same quality of treatment as all physical illnesses.                                                                    Our organization advocates for adequate funding of services from the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and for continued research into effective treatments for mental illness.

Our aim is to help persons  with mental illness achieve a sense of dignity with the highest degree of independence and productivity.
