The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI of Greater Fall River) will be holding a " Take a Swing Against Stigma 'fundraising golf tournament on Sunday , August 15, 2010 at the Swansea Country Club with a 1:00 PM shotgun start. This year's event is being hosted by State Representative David B Sulivan a long time advocate for the mentally ill. Entry fee is a modest $95.00 which includes greens fee, driving cart, unlimited driving range balls, skill contests (closest to the pin, longest and strightest drives), post golf dinner, and awards. Optional extras include mulligans, a split the pot hole, a putting contest, best poker hand , raffle, and more. The tournament will be played with a cape Cod scramble format. Golfers of all skill levels are invited to attend.
The proceeds from this year's event will be used to help fund a Community Crisis Intervention Program in Greater Fall River Area. This program will educate area police men, firemen and first responders about the needs of a person with mental illness especially in crisis situations. Funds will also be used to support community outreach counseling programs and family to family education programs for Greater Fall River & New Bedford and Taunton area.

This support group is for family members, parents, spouses, siblings, caregivers and friends of people who have mental illness.

NAMI Family to Family Education Program
This program is a 12 week course for families of individuals with severe brain disorder (mental illness ) The course is taught by trained family members. All course materials are furnished to you at no cost. This free course will provide knowledge , understanding , guidance, and support a must for families dealing with serious mental illnesses.
The curriculum focuses on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression ) clinical depression, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) .
The course discusses clinical treatment of these illnesses and teaches the knowledge and skills that family members needs to cope more effectively.
The Family to Family classes will be held in this area soon . The classes are limited to 20 people so participants will be taken on a first come first serve basis. For more information please call Brenda 508-678-2584 .

NAMI Connection Support Group is a recovery support of their diagnosis .
Is a recovery support group for adults with mental Illness regardless of their diagnosis. Every group is offered free of charge and meets for 90 minutes. The groups are led by trained individuals who are also in recovery -people who understands the challenges you face.
